Title:  Human Resources Specialist
Reports to: Director of Human Resources

WQED Multimedia, honored with the 2007 and 2006 Mid-Atlantic Emmy Award for Station Excellence and eight other Emmy Awards in 2006, provides quality products and services to engage, inform, educate and entertain the public within its community and around the world.  It is the parent company of WQED tv13 (PBS), WQEX tv16, WQED fm89.3, WQEJ fm89.7/Johnstown, a publishing division that includes PITTSBURGH magazine, local and national television and radio productions, www.wqed.organd the WQED Education and Community Resource Center.

Candidate administers implements and communicates various human resources policies, plans and programs for all company personnel.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to:

  • Conduct new employee benefit orientations and counsels employees on plan provisions so that individuals can make informed benefit decisions.
  • Processes required documents through payroll and insurance providers to ensure accurate and timely payment and benefit deductions.  Investigates and resolves discrepancies between carriers and the company.
  • Administers Cobra for employees and qualified beneficiaries.
  • Screen resumes, coordinating interviews, interviewing candidates, and serving as a general point of contact for all parties throughout the process.
  • Initiates and processes all necessary documentation and correspondence to ensure a smooth employment process.
  • Maintains contact with temporary agencies and coordinates use of temporary personnel
  • Coordinates internal and external recruitment and selection efforts.
  • Maintain HRIS database.
  • Maintains records, reports, and logs to conform to EEO1 and FCC regulations.  Responds to information requests for federal DataMatch project
  • Generates various employment reports to management and other internal departments as needed.
  • Develop a selection process for interns.
  • Maintain an accurate record of interns (past, present & future).
  • Develop a feedback instrument to implement changes, which would improve the program.
  • Communicate and apply well-defined company Human Resources policies to internal customer requests.
  • Maintain and update addendums to employee handbook.
  • Answers questions regarding policies and procedures.

Required education and skills:

  • A Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent work experience required.
  • 1 to 3 years experience required.
  • A working knowledge of Human Resources policies and procedures.
  • Excellent organizational skills and ability to communicate effectively.
  • Must be proficient in Microsoft Office.  Previous database experience required.
  • Candidate must display highest level of attention to detail and accuracy.
