Senior Gift Officer, Washington & Jefferson College - Washington, PA

POSITION SUMMARY:
Washington & Jefferson College seeks a highly motivated, experienced development professional to fill a newly-created Senior Gift Officer position. As part of the College’s fundraising team, the candidate will focus on the development of relationships with W&J alumni, friends and other prospects, with accountability for soliciting major and planned gifts ($10K and above). Responsibilities include identifying, qualifying, cultivating, soliciting and stewarding gifts.
This position will work closely with the development and alumni staff, as well as College administration, faculty, alumni and volunteers. Reporting to the Director of Development and Planned Giving, this position is part of the College Advancement office which is an integral part of a goal-oriented, detail-focused and collaborative college environment dedicated to its alumni and students.
RESPONSIBILITIES INCLUDE:
- Responsible for qualification, cultivation, solicitation and stewardship of individual donors.
- Schedule and implement face-to-face meetings with prospects with goal of approximately 180 visits per year.
- Work with major gift, planned gift and annual fund staff to determine appropriate strategies for prospects.
- Supervise Development Associate position.
- Participate in reunion, event and other cultivation and donor stewardship activities as necessary.
- Attend conferences and professional development workshops as appropriate.
- Other duties as assigned.
QUALIFICATIONS:
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree desirable.
- Minimum of 7-10 years progressive, successful development experience; previous experience in higher education desirable.
- Broad knowledge of the principles of both major gift and planned gift fundraising and success in integrating donor-centered gift strategies.
- Demonstrated skills in clear and effective communication, both written and verbal.
- Strong presentation skills.
- Well-organized; strong attention to detail and follow-up.
- Ability to be efficient and work independently while also being able to collaborate effectively with all members of the advancement team.
- Ability to travel to visit alumni and friends in local and regional areas, with occasional national travel.
- Work nights and weekends as required.
