Project: Earned Income Tax Credit Campaign Coordinator (Temporary contract position to be paid hourly)

Department: Community Impact

Responsibilities:
Provide assistance to a coalition of community partners to increase the number of eligible low income individuals in Allegheny County applying for the underutilized federal Earned Income Tax Credit (EITC).   

Duties

  • Coordinate recruitment and placement of volunteers for multiple sites
  • Research best practices in EITC campaigns including volunteer development, program evaluation and outcome planning, fundraising, community development, and foundation and government relations and recommend strategies for review and implementation
  • Assist with design and implementation of public awareness campaign, focusing specifically on strategies to reach low income families and individuals
  • Coordinate 1-3 “stand alone” tax preparation days involving multiple community partners and volunteers
  • Assist in the implementation of evaluation of the campaign efforts
  • Assist in providing support and technical assistance to the agencies providing volunteer tax preparation services
  • Prepare and present information, reports and recommendations as appropriate

Desired Skills:

  • Ability to communicate effectively and build strong working relationships with diverse groups and individuals, both orally and through written materials
  • Planning, creative problem-solving and organizing skills and the ability to juggle multiple tasks and assignments under often strict deadlines
  • Experience working with direct service volunteers
  • Knowledge of marketing concepts 
  • Prior experience working for or with non-profit agencies
  • Proficiency in word processing, spreadsheets and database helpful

Compensation:
The individual selected for this project will be considered an independent contractor and not an employee of United Way of Allegheny County.  Contract rate is $30 hour.  It is anticipated that the number of hours per week will range from 15-30 hours.  The length of the contract will extend from September 2008 through May 2009.  Interested individuals should plan to commit for this entire period to see the project through to completion.
