POSITION SUMMARY: The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust (Trust) is seeking an Internet-savvy communication and publicity specialist who is detail oriented and able to multi-task in a fast-paced work environment. The PR and Social Media Manager is responsible for coordinating public relations and publicity efforts for activities related to The Trust’s various departments, its performing and visual arts facilities, and for Trust-sponsored events in Cultural District venues. This includes publicity efforts for Trust Presents, PNC Broadway Across America – Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Dance Council, Cabaret at Theater Square, Wood Street Galleries among others. The PR/Social Media Manager is also responsible for developing and managing publicity campaigns that leverage social media and online outlets.
The PR/Social Media Manager works very closely with department managers and reports directly to the Director of Public Relations.
The Trust does not offer tenured or guaranteed employment. Either the Trust or the employee can terminate the employment relationship at any time, with or without cause, with or without notice.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: The following are examples of the various functions required. The job requirements are not limited to items on this list.
- Writes news releases, public service announcements, and other materials as needed promoting The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust.
- Provides media coordination for all events and activities sponsored by The Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, especially servicing blogs, websites and social networking sites with Trust event information.
- Works directly with the Director of Public Relations, the Show Marketing Managers, and department managers on aspects of public and media relations for the Trust.
- Establishes and maintains positive relationships with news media for effective placement of story ideas, and assists the Director of PR with planning and coordinating news conferences and special events.
- Arranges media interviews with artists/entertainers and Trust representatives under supervision of show representatives and Director of PR.
- Provides assistance and coordination, when needed, for Cultural District arts organizations in their public relations efforts.
- Manages the Trust online press room, programs electronic announcements and develops electronic press kits for media outlets
- Develops promotional events to maximize public relations efforts on behalf of Trust events and Cultural District partnerships.
- Manages public relations activities for PNC Broadway Across America - Pittsburgh, the Pittsburgh Dance Council, Wood Street Galleries, SPACE, 707-709 Penn Galleries and other programs as assigned.
- Assists the Director of Public Relations with projects concerning cultural tourism and downtown promotion.
- Assists the Director of Public Relations and Vice President of Marketing and Communications with audience development projects.
EDUCATION, EXPERIENCE, AND SKILLS REQUIRED:
Public Relations/Social Media Manager -- Full-time salaried position to assist with publicity efforts for the Pittsburgh Cultural Trust, its performing and visual arts facilities, and programs. Responsibilities include writing press releases, media advisories, and press materials; developing and managing publicity campaigns that leverage social media and online outlets; managing online press room, electronic announcements and press kits; and assisting PR director as needed. Bachelor's Degree in Marketing, PR, Journalism or related field and two to five years experience required. Excellent writing and communication skills are essential. Expertise with Microsoft Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint, as well as online blogs and news feeds, is essential. Knowledge of print production and web design along with a strong interest or background in the arts is preferred.
