Manager of Electronic Communications, Shady Side Academy - Pittsburgh, PA

Shady Side Academy is seeking a Manager of Electronic Communications to support the Academy’s website and other electronic communications efforts. The Manager of Electronic Communications will report to the Director of Communications.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves as the primary content manager for the Academy’s new website, to debut in January 2009; assist in writing content and building pages for the new site in fall 2008
- Writes, edits and/or proofreads Web content, ensuring consistent voice and message as well as adherence to AP Style and best practices of Web writing
- Works extensively with the content management system (CMS) to create and update Web pages, posting text, images, documents, multimedia and other related content
- Trains and supports Academy staff and faculty on the use of the CMS
- Takes the lead in generating ideas and projects that ensure the Academy makes the fullest use of its new rich, interactive website technology
- Assists departments in the writing, creation and distribution of e-newsletters to various audiences, including alumni, parents and prospective parents/students
- Assists Academy staff in maintaining the online calendar of school events, ensuring that all events and changes are recorded promptly and accurately
- Assists in maintaining the Academy’s online store, in cooperation with the store manager
- Monitors the Academy’s presence on third-party websites, including social networking sites such as Facebook, MySpace and LinkedIn
- Photographs school events as assigned, archives photos and formats for Web/print use
- Assists the Director and Assistant Director of Communications with writing, editing and/or proofreading for a variety of other projects, including Shady Side Academy Magazine, various marketing communications materials and press releases
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related field
- Minimum three years’ experience in writing and editing for electronic and print communications. Experience in an educational setting preferred.
- Outstanding writing and editing skills; ability to write compelling copy for a variety of media; knowledge of AP Style and Web writing best practices
- Experience working with Web content management systems (CMS); strong Web savvy
- Excellent organizational, project management and interpersonal skills; attention to detail; proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- PC and Mac proficient; working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator) software
- Digital photography experience
