Assistant Director of Communications, Shady Side Academy, Pittsburgh - PA

Shady Side Academy is seeking an Assistant Director of Communications to support all of the Academy’s internal and external communications and marketing efforts. The Assistant Director of Communications will report to the Director of Communications.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Assists the Director of Communications in overseeing and managing all publications, public relations, marketing, advertising and electronic communications efforts
- Serves as primary editor and writer for Shady Side Academy Magazine, planning and coordinating production schedule and editorial content for three issues per year, including annual report issue. Writes feature stories and articles; edits and proofreads content from other sources. Takes digital photos; hires and directs freelance photographers. Works with designer, printer and mail house to coordinate production, printing and distribution.
- Writes compelling copy for a variety of publications, press releases, Web pages and e-newsletters; edits and proofreads copy from other sources
- Manages multiple publication projects from inception to completion, meeting all assigned deadlines. Sample projects include admissions marketing materials, fundraising solicitations, homecoming materials, event invitations and programs, employee and student directories, fliers, posters, campus signage
- Ensures consistency in voice and message in all communications materials, as well as adherence to Academy graphic identity standards and AP Style
- Works collaboratively with a wide variety of internal and external constituents (faculty, staff, parents, alumni, students, vendors) as necessary
- Photographs school events, archives photos and formats for Web/print use
- Assists in overseeing the Academy’s Manager of Electronic Communications
- Assists the Director of Communications with other projects as assigned.
POSITION REQUIREMENTS
- Bachelor’s degree in communications, journalism or related field
- Minimum five years’ experience in writing, editing and project management for print and online communications. Experience in an educational setting preferred.
- Outstanding writing, editing and proofreading skills; ability to write compelling copy for a variety of media; knowledge of AP Style
- Excellent organizational, project management and interpersonal skills; attention to detail; proven ability to manage multiple projects in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment
- Experience in working with designers, agency partners, photographers and printers
- PC and Mac proficient; working knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access) and Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Acrobat, Photoshop, Illustrator) software
- Digital photography experience
