Focus On Renewal Full-Time Development Director                                                    August 2008

A noted activist once said, “We simply lay foundations that will need development…We cannot do everything, but we can do some things and do them very, very well. It may be incomplete, but it is a beginning, a step along the way. We may never see the end results. We are prophets of a future that is not our own.”

Focus On Renewal (FOR) is this type of foundation: a place of welcome and respect that has been doing things very, very well for nearly 40 years. We have gained national attention and strong regional credibility simply by responding to the needs of a struggling community, attempting to offer hope and dignity by weaving together a comprehensive continuum of support, including companionship, learning, training, library services/internet access, transportation, child care, material needs, family support, medical care, low-income loans, counseling, social services, meals, food, advocacy, socialization, homeownership assistance, mental health services and most recently arts education and performances. FOR offers respect and dignity to individuals so they may live their lives in a dignified and fully human way. We nurture hope and weave dreams; we are compassionate; and we are motivated to continue changing the face of this deteriorated and struggling neighborhood.

For the first time in its history, Focus On Renewal is establishing an office of development for the purpose of continuing the dreams and efforts of so many people who care about this neighborhood and believe in the dignity and goodness of all people. FOR is an amazing story, an amazing effort. We have done so much with so little, and we are now at a time in our history where we are ready to approach the next level of organizational sophistication.

We offer a unique opportunity for a development professional to join our journey and creatively establish and supervise development efforts for the entire agency, which has a well- established reputation, a compelling history and a $4 million dollar budget with nearly 100 employees. Our website address is www.forstorox.org.

Focus On Renewal’s development director will have solid support, yet much autonomy in assisting the agency to develop major gift activities, planned giving, fund-raising events, relationship building and database management. Must be an excellent storyteller.
