The Kingsley Association was established in 1893, known then as the Kingsley House, for the purpose of providing services to working class ethnic families of Pittsburgh, first from the Kingsley House in the Strip district, then the Lower Hill and finally East Liberty. 

The Kingsley Association is a 117 year old community-based organization focused on empowering community residents to take control of their lives.  The Kingsley Association is currently housed in a 56,000 square foot facility located on 6435 Frankstown Avenue in the East End of the City of Pittsburgh.

The mission of the Kingsley Association is to: To inspire and promote our community growth as a physical anchor, social, wellness, and service program provider and thought leader.

Kingsley provides three core services to the community: Health and Wellness, Education Services, and Community Sustainability programming.  These services represent several core programming areas that include: Athletics, Freedom School, Mary L. Stone Black College Tour, Family Support Center, Artist in Residence, Family Fun Fridays, Summer Run, Fun Fitness Camp (Fighting Obesity), TechGYRLS, and the Experiment Station. 

Our latest project is the development of the Kingsley “Experiment Station.” 

Background:
The Experiment Station is an initiative of The Kingsley Association. “The Experiment Station” is a metaphor that sought to explain the role of Kingsley House as a place where it was possible to explore how to meet community needs. The phrase was coined in 1938 by our first female executive.

Today our Experiment Station initiative continues this tradition utilizing “Economic Gardening” principles, which include: information, infrastructure, connection. Economic Gardening is an entrepreneur-centered economic growth strategy that offers balance to the traditional economic development practice of business recruitment.

The Experiment Station Coordinator (Full-time position) supports our economic gardening efforts by providing logistical support for day to day activities, Internet media social networking support and assists the director managing Experiment Station marketing efforts and sustainability projects.

Responsibilities and Duties:

  • Assist the director in developing and implementing internal Experiment Station operations and administrative systems;
  • Coordinate marketing activities including advertising, proposal writing and special events, including;
  • Project management;
  • Cultivates excellent relationships with Experiment Station customers.

We are seeking an individual with the following attributes:

  • Ability to contribute individually, as well as, lead, manages and participates in cross-functional teams;
  • Ability to create great working relationships with diverse customer groups;
  • High level of proficiency managing day to day project activities;
  • Has an entrepreneurial spirit and is committed to a livable planet and social justice;

Experience in marketing, special events & promotions, small business administration, Internet social networking and marketing preferred.

Knowledge and Skills:

  • Bachelors Degree in Business Administration, Marketing, or other comparative field;
  • Three to five years experience in the business field, marketing field, and or management fields;
  • General knowledge of local living economies, sustainable design, green jobs principles;
  • Strong administrative skills including managing time, resources and people;
  • Excellent communication skills both written and spoken;
  • Experience in developing and producing marketing materials and special events;
  • Ability to work in both PC and Mac office systems, databases, spreadsheets, word processing, social network & web based tools and publishing software.
