Volunteer Staff Position – A Unique Approach

GENERAL JOB DESCRIPTION:
Storehouse for Teachers seeks an Administrative Associate that will report directly to the Executive Director. This position is devoted to supporting the Executive Director (ED) and coordinating SFT administrative and office management matters with a high level of professionalism and business acumen.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Help coordinate Executive Director’s schedule, priorities and task management, particularly regular letter writing to various audiences
  • Assist the SFT staff with workload as requested
  • Maintain SFT contacts in contact record management database
  • Represent the ED in his absence and by proxy in correspondence; communicating professionally and effectively with internal and external partners
  • Assist in the administration of the Board of Directors including communication, recruiting processes, and meeting preparation, coordination and follow-up
  • Respond to telephone and email inquiries made of SFT by Board of Directors, partners, stakeholders and teachers
  • Record all cash and product donations; generate appropriate donation receipts
  • Coordinate basic human resources, accounting and activities
  • Maintain efficient office procedures including digital and paper filing systems, office supply replenishment, equipment maintenance, and office cleaning coordination
  • Manage and recruit SFT volunteer efforts and database

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Aptitude for working in a start-up environment requiring innovation and flexibility
  • Self-starting, self-managing, possessing a strong sense of mission, responsibility and initiative to serve teachers and students, staff, board and stakeholders
  • Relationship driven with engaging personality and enthusiastic approach
  • Excellent office organizational skills requiring an attention to detail
  • Ability to grasp all overall vision along with current scope of work
  • Exemplary verbal and written communication skills; fluency in MS Office
  • College graduate or equivalent experience

This position is being posted as a volunteer staff position.  SFT is offering this position in a way that provides ultimate flexibility to qualified candidates.  SFT will provide a titled position, office environment, laptop, email address and business cards for both part and full time candidates.  SFT understands the challenging employment climate in the marketplace and has created this position to offer an employment alternative.  This position will give the candidate a meaningful, charity- and community-based position for one’s resume while providing ultimate flexibility to continue pursuing permanent employment.  In addition, candidates who join SFT will be the first to be considered as permanent positions become available.  SFT will seriously consider qualified candidate’s basic financial needs on a case-by-case basis.

Candidates will gain rare experience in a start-up nonprofit organization. Functioning as a warehouse/distribution center, SFT uniquely addresses key social concerns such as poverty, youth, education, conservation and recycling.  In addition, successful candidates will receive the added exposure to the construction process - a complete renovation of a 30,000SF, three-acre facility into a vibrant community center serving teachers and students in six counties.

Storehouse for Teachers is a start-up nonprofit that is launching a Capital Campaign to raise funds to renovate a recently purchased building that will house Pennsylvania’s first teacher resource center.  SFT serves the community by ensuring that Pittsburgh’s economically disadvantaged students have basic classroom supplies to equip them for learning.  By supporting teachers as they strive to provide an educational experience that launches students on the pathway to success, Storehouse for Teachers provides an innovative solution to a fundamental challenge impacting the future of our students.  This is a great opportunity for professional growth, gaining valuable hands-on experience.
