Oberlin Shansi invites applications for the position of Campus Coordinator. This is a full-time 10-month Administrative and Professional Staff entry-level position reporting to the Associate Director of Oberlin Shansi. The appointment is for two academic years beginning on August 1, 2010.

Responsibilities: The incumbent will be responsible for promoting Oberlin Shansi programs on campus, including the Shansi undergraduate in-Asia grants and on-campus grants to student organizations and faculty departments for programs that promote awareness of Asia and Asian American topics; managing logistics for Shansi campus events such as symposia, guest lectures, and performances; managing the Shansi website; staffing the Oberlin Committee and collaborating with other campus organizations and departments on programs and issues of mutual concern.

Responsibilities include but are not limited to the following:
1) Work to develop a greater appreciation of Asian cultures and current events as well as Asian American topics through Shansi campus programming and to promote awareness of Shansi programs and initiatives;
2) Manage, organize, and develop Shansi campus programs, such as visiting lecturers and special events; organize and manage Shansi academic conferences and symposia held on campus; arrange logistics for campus guests and speakers; assist with campus presentations and events such as Commencement/Reunion Weekend Shansi activities;
3) Manage campus undergraduate programs such as the undergraduate In-Asia Study Grant Program and the Shansi Prize;
4) Maintain relationships and promote collaborations with Oberlin College (OC) departments and offices such as the Multicultural Resource Center and East Asian Studies program;
5) Work with campus student groups with regard to co-sponsoring events, lectures, and cultural performances that relate to Asian and Asian American issues;
6) Manage the Shansi website by writing stories, posting stories written by others, and keeping the site up to date with news about Shansi campus programs and events;
7) Perform other tasks as assigned to meet the objectives and goals of the organization.

The applicant must possess a bachelor’s degree. Preference will be given to candidates with experience in international communications/relations, cross-cultural communications, education or Asian studies. The candidate must possess familiarity with Asian cultures as well as cross-cultural awareness and sensitivity; a working knowledge of website management, word processing programs, and general computer skills; and have demonstrated organizational skills. He/she must possess excellent oral and written communication skills and be team-oriented and self-motivated. Because a major component of the position requires managing events/ programs, weekend and evening hours will be expected.

Additional Qualifications:

It is desirable that the applicant be able to demonstrate an ability to work effectively with undergraduate students, foreign nationals, college faculty and staff, and volunteers. Skills in Adobe Dreamweaver and Adobe Photoshop are a plus.

To recent Oberlin graduates it offers two-year teaching Fellowships at its partner institutions in Asia. It sponsors Asian faculty and students to teach, do research, and study at Oberlin and provides grants to Oberlin faculty and staff to travel and lecture in Asia. It offers work/study winter term and summer grants to undergraduates going to Asia and carries out a variety of public programs on campus.
