ALLEGHENY COUNTY PARKS FOUNDATION
Overview On September 27, 2007 County Executive Dan Onorato announced the establishment of the Allegheny County Parks Foundation. With the establishment of the Allegheny County Parks Foundation, many of the goals and recommendations in the Allegheny County Parks Comprehensive Master Plan can be implemented. The Foundation’s charge is to help transform Allegheny County’s parks through funding, asset improvement, increased utilization, and public/private collaboration in order to enhance quality of life in the region. The Allegheny County Parks Foundation is a nonprofit, nonpartisan, independent organization. The mission of the Allegheny County Parks Foundation is to assist Allegheny County in the maintenance, improvement, protection, preservation, and restoration of Allegheny County park facilities, and to support educational and recreational activities. The Foundation is governed by a Board of Directors comprised of private sector, county, community, and philanthropic leaders. The Foundation focuses on undertaking projects of varying complexity and scope practicing environmental stewardship and sustainable best practices.
